Luisa: No One I Knew Was Feeling Like Me
Luisa was 36 years old when her doctor told her that her pituitary gland wasn’t working properly because her estrogen was low. And then he told her that she was probably going through early menopause!
She was shocked, scared and confused! Less than a year later she was experiencing hot flushes, sadness, anger, and severe irritability. She was also a mom of two very young boys and felt she wasn’t being her best self for them. At the age of 39, she went through early menopause. Everyone she talked to about treatment warned her not to take hormones because “she would get breast cancer.” She felt so alone.
She remembers, “My early 40’s sucked. No one I knew, in my age group, was feeling like me. I was desperate to feel like myself again. I decided to try Hormone Replacement Therapy, and it saved me.”
Luisa says that some struggles remain today, but she is doing much better. She is thankful that she “listened to myself and not others, because only we know what’s best for us!”
